Turner Prize 2011 comes to BALTIC in 2011

BALTIC Centre for  Contemporary ArtTate and BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art are delighted to announce that Turner Prize 2011 will be presented at BALTIC. In 2007 the Prize was staged at  Tate Liverpool as a curtain-raiser to Liverpool being European Capital of Culture in 2008. Following its success there, it has been decided that the Prize will be presented at Tate Britain and at a gallery outside London in alternate years. The first non-Tate venue outside the capital will be BALTIC in Gateshead. Click here for full details.

Visitors can now download the Official NewcastleGateshead City Guide iPhone App with the simple touch of a button.

The groundbreaking app is one of the first to be developed and used by a tourism organisation in the UK, combining an abundance of interactive features, and supplying information on all things NewcastleGateshead.

It has never been easier to search for hotels, restaurants and bars, or browse what’s on for festivals, shows and events. The app also allows visitors to visualise where they are in relation to top attractions, activities and popular eateries, along with the ability to plan a shortlist of all the things they want to do and see.

The content of the City Guide is selected and supplied by NewcastleGateshead Initiative to ensure visitors get the very most from their city break. Once downloaded, the app puts visitors in the centre of all things good to see and do in this vibrant city-break destination.

New hotel developments in NewcastleGateshead in 2011

2011 sees the arrival of some brand new hotel accommodation in the city including; a four-star Sandman Signature Hotel Newcastle which is located on Barrack Road, opposite St James’ Metro Station.  Now open, the hotel has 170 bedrooms comprising a mix of rooms and suite style accommodation. There is also a large sport bar and Asian grill restaurant.

A brand new Jurys Inn NewcastleGateshead Quays located right on the banks of the River Tyne opened its doors in September 2011.  This flagship Jurys Inn hotel boasts 200 rooms, a range of meeting spaces and a bar and restaurant. 

Westgate Road in the heart of NewcastleGateshead welcomes Sleeperz Newcastle in October 2011.  The 98 bed hotel will also include two small meeting rooms.

2012 and 2013 will see the arrival of another two high profile hotel developments in the twin cities.  Hotel Indigo Newcastle will be located in the former Eagle Star building on Fenkle Street in Newcastle city centre, adjacent to popular conference venue, The Assembly Rooms. It will feature accommodation, conference space and a Marco Pierre White brasserie.  Crowne Plaza Newcastle, opening in 2013 as part of the redevelopment of the Stephenson Quarter in Newcastle, will include 251 bedrooms and extensive conference and banqueting facilities.
