Plus an extensive free outdoor daytime programme including Latin and Caribbean summer sounds on the opening weekend of the festival (19 & 20 July), and a Jumpin’ Hot stage for the popular Americana weekend (26 & 27 July).
The festival also brings a late night Latin Dance Party in association with the
¡VAMOS! Festival, film screenings, and a whole range of activities designed for families.
The festival is launched with an extraordinary event to celebrate the completion of Newcastle and Gateshead’s eighth bridge –
a bamboo construction by Australian artists Bambuco:
Friday 18 July, 10pmNewcastle and Gateshead quaysidesAs nightfall descends, specially commissioned music will be heard and two riggers will climb the length of the bridge, lighting over 700 flames on the bridge until meeting in the middle. Their balletic movements silhouetted in the night sky will create a breath-taking and awe-inspiring spectacle.
