Have a wild day out at WWT Washington Wetland Centre, where the wonders of wetland birds and their habitats are brought vividly to life.

Open 364 days, visitors of all ages can enjoy stunning, year-round scenery and unforgettable nose-to-beak encounters with exotic waterbirds and other wildlife.

Explore a diverse mix of wetland, woodland and wildlife reserve – home to endangered wildfowl, flocks of wild waders, grey herons, woodland birds, frogs, dragonflies, bats, goats, ancient woodland and beautiful wildflower meadows.

Visit Close Encounters and hand-feed the rarest goose in the world or watch Eurasian cranes as they parade across the stream area.

Bird hides with views of lapwing, curlew and avocet are on the shore at Wader Lake; colourful bullfinches and great-spotted woodpecker gather at Hawthorn Wood feeding station; mini-beasts lurk in Hollowood and fluffy babies hatch at Waterfowl Nursery (May-July).

Special annual events include Downy Duckling Days, Animal Magic and the Greenfest eco fair, as well as a fantastic calendar of regular wildlife workshops, family-friendly activities and daily feed walks.

Waterside Café serves up tasty, freshly-made food every day and is open to the general public (not including admission to the grounds). It also hosts special seasonal meals and other functions.

Plus there are picnic areas, an insect garden, a sustainable garden, Splash Zone play area and WWT gift shop. Excellent disabled access and free wheelchair hire (including mobility scooters).

Join the WWT membership scheme during your visit and not only will your entrance fee be refunded, but within a couple of trips you’ll be enjoying unlimited free days out for the rest of the year!

At WWT Washington Wetland Centre, visitors of all ages can get close to nature and learn the value of the UK’s diverse wetlands, their rich wildlife and the importance of WWT’s conservation work, while helping to save wildfowl and wetlands for future generations.
