Events
We’re Geordies. We don’t wrap up for the autumn, and neither does our events programme.
So, you’re into side-splitting laughs, splitting hairs at high-end contemporary art, or splitting the airwaves with the very best the music world has to offer; it’s a good job NewcastleGateshead has an unrivalled events programme lined up for this autumn.
We’ve comedy from Sarah Millican and Alan Carr, music from The Arctic Monkeys and George Michael and theatre from the Sound of Music. And to top it all, the prestigious contemporary art award the Turner Prize is coming to BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art. It’s a huge honour to host the event and a massive coup for BALTIC as the very first non-Tate venue to do so in the awards history!
If contemporary art doesn’t beat your drum, there’s a load of unique and renowned cultural venues to entertain you. The Sage Gateshead is a breathtaking building, designed by Sir Norman Foster and home of world-class international music. If you’re looking for drama, music and dance then head up to the newly restored Theatre Royal – they’ve just re-opened their doors after a splendid, multi-million pound, Edwardian makeover. And there’s the beautifully restored, art deco Tyneside Cinema, one of the few surviving News Reel cinemas in Britain, designed and built by Dixon Scott, great uncle to Hollywood directors Sir Ridley and Tony Scott.
