Steak and kidney? Chicken and Mushroom? Pork? What’s your filling? The vegetarians amongst you are also in for a treat as there are a brilliant range of pies on offer at many of the restaurants and pubs listed below too.

You can’t get more quintessentially British than a good old pie so it’s time to celebrate the ultimate comfort food. You don’t need an excuse all year round but this week – tuck in because it is British Pie Week from Mon 6 – Sun 12 March!

The humble pie may have started out as ‘peasant food’ but we are a nation of pie fanatics – you’d be hard pushed to find a pub menus without its pie of choice in pride of place.

Review: Blackfriars

It's a cold, wet and miserable day in Newcastle, so what better way to warm ourselves up than some classic comfort food (with a twist) from Blackfriars. 

And there are not many restaurants in the North East steeped in more history, so when we were invited to sample their early-evening set menu, it was, of course, our absolute pleasure.

Review: Sunday Lunch at Artisan

Voted by The Times as one of the top 25 restaurants for Sunday Lunch in the UK, when I was invited to sample their menu I was anything but hesitant in my reply, in fact it was already high on my list of places I really wanted to visit.
