Tanfield Railway
Ride in Victorian carriages pulled by a steam train along a line built in 1725.
The line skirts Causey Arch, the world’s oldest surviving railway bridge, and features a working engine shed, open every day.
Trains operate every Sunday throughout the year plus Wednesdays and Thursdays during the school summer holidays.
Travel from A1 and Gateshead on A692 Consett road; from Chester-le-Street and Beamish on A693 Stanley road; situated off the A6076 Stanley to Sunniside Road.
