Theatre Royal

The North of England‘s premier theatre, The Theatre Royal was described by actor Charlton Heston as amongst the most beautiful he had ever played in, and it‘s not hard to see why.

From the arresting façade to the grandiose Frank Matcham designed auditorium it‘s a visual delight. It is host to many major productions, from the Royal Shakespeare Company, National Theatre and Opera North who each stage a season here every year, to smash hit West End musicals or challenging contemporary work. There is something here for everyone.

In the City Centre, 300 yards from Monument Metro in Grainger Town. All season you can travel to and from the Theatre absolutely free (up to two hours before and after the performance), simply retain your theatre ticket for inspection on the Metro.
