The Metro links NewcastleGateshead with the rest of Tyne and Wear and has been rated as one of the UK's most efficient rapid transport systems.

There are Metro stations in the heart of Newcastle city centre (Monument and Haymarket), at Newcastle Central Station and Gateshead town centre (Gateshead Quays is just a 10 minute walk or short shuttle bus journey from Gateshead station).

Newcastle International Airport also has its own Metro station and the journey time from Newcastle city centre to the Airport is around 20 minutes. The Metro is the ideal way to get to the Jesmond cafe bar scene and to explore the coastal areas of North and South Tyneside.

Tickets are purchased via ticket machines at the Metro station, so have some change ready.  If you're planning on making a few journeys, look out for a Metro DaySaver which gives all day unlimited Metro travel.
