Markets
When it comes to markets, you’re also spoilt for choice. The Grainger Market is in the centre of the city and stocked with all manner of interesting goodies. Then there’s the Farmers’ & Country Market on the first Friday of every month on Grainger Street. Another market worth a visit is the Tynemouth Market at Tynemouth Metro station on weekends, where you’ll find tempting goodies by the seaside.

Grainger Market

This covered, city centre market is a piece of Newcastle history opened as it was in 1835. It's now a Grade I listed building and inside there are plenty of stalls with fresh produce being a speciality with a plethora of butchers and greengrocers being very much to the fore. There are also stalls selling books, CDs, clothes and shoes, cards, video games, music, pet shops, specialist coffee and food. An arts and craft market is held here on the 2nd Saturday of each month (9am-5pm).
Markets
Newcastle Quayside Market

From Sunday 22 July 2007, don't miss the exciting new Quayside Market - a vibrant and varied showcase for quality goods and produce. You'll find artists, designers, jewellers, food producers, photographers, ceramic artists, and fashionistas, as well as street artists and buskers.  The new market will complement the Quayside's fabulous natural setting, world-class cultural institutions and superb restaurants and bars, making it a, again, a "must do" destination.

When you're all shopped out, why not call into one of the many Quayside pubs or restaurants for a Sunday lunch.

Farmers' & County Market

Locally produced meat, cheese, crafts, bread, preserves, condiments and plants including a huge variety of herbs, are available on the first Friday of each month at this market held from 9.30am - 2.30pm on Grainger Street, next to Grey's Monument in the centre of Newcastle.
Jesmond, Armstrong Bridge

Each Sunday (10am-4pm) this beautiful iron bridge which spans Jesmond Dene is resplendent with artists and crafts people selling their wares providing the ideal place to pick up something a little out of the ordinary.

Tynemouth Market

This market couldn't be easier to get to. Jump on the Metro to the Coast, hop off at Tynemouth Station and you're there. Every weekend, this quiet, restored Victorian station comes to life with the hustle and bustle of hundreds of bargain hunters. Beneath the glass and wrought iron canopies of this beautiful listed building, you'll discover plenty of stalls weighed down with tempting goodies.

On Saturdays people search for antiques, bric a brac and books while on Sundays the focus changes to crafts, household and practical items. Every third Saturday of the month the market is joined by local farmers selling their fruit, vegetables, meat, cheese and home baked cakes.
