The NewcastleGateshead equivalent to Oxford Street in London is Northumberland Street which is a paved area (with no traffic to interrupt your shopping) and holds some of the biggest names in retail.

A great portion of the street is also taken up with Fenwick. Famed for its Christmas window displays, this expansive department store is particularly good for designer attire with men and women both amply catered for. There's also a free personal shopping service available by booking in advance.

One of the largest Marks & Spencer stores in the country resides here (split over two floors with an enormous food court to boot) as do other high-street favourites such as budget clothes specialists H&M and Primark, record stores HMV and Virgin as well as an impressive array of sports shops including J.D. Sports, First Sport and Ath-Leisure.
