The famous landmark The Angel of the North is one of the seven wonders of Britain with 200 tonnes of steel welcoming you to Gateshead. Created by Antony Gormley it's the largest angel sculpture in Britain. Don't forget to take your camera and get a picture of yourself sitting on the Angel's feet.
Stroll along both Newcastle quayside and Gateshead quays to check out the Blacksmith's Needle, Sea Steps, River God and Rolling Moon sculptures. NEW See Britain's biggest and newest light artwork, the giant, 360 metre-long Nocturne will form a kaleidoscope of ever-changing LED lights spanning a Metro bridge above the Tyne from dusk to dawn.
Works of art of international repute in the grounds of the University of Northumbria in Newcastle and a whole programme of specially commissioned work on the Metro are among the treasures waiting to be discovered.
While the Blue Carpet by Thomas Heatherwick is a fantastic urban space; the tiles are made of recycled glass shards giving a shimmering effect of cool blues. The carpet is complemented by a simple spiralling staircase made of cedar.
