Tokyo Picnic Club (TPC)'s "Picnopolis NewcastleGateshead" was a FREE event which invited you to share 10 days of picnic throughout the city. As part of EAST'08 - a world-class celebration of contemporary Asian culture in NewcastleGateshead - TPC created two different kinds of picnic site, BABYPLANES and MOTHERPLANE, providing a unique opportunity to enjoy summer in the city.

During 10 days, BABYPLANES travelled around 10 of the best picnic sites in NewcastleGateshead, while MOTHERPLANE stayed at Baltic Square, Gateshead Quays awaiting the return of her babies. All sites were open and free to everyone for picnic. TPC spies were out documenting picnickers picnic recipes and hampers!

Picnopolis also featured a number of special events including a Japanese Tea Ceremony, a Picnic Contest and family workshops at BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, and worked in partnership with local cafés and food outlets to introduce Picnopolis Speciality Foods.

Picnopolis was part of NewcastleGateshead’s world-class festivals and events programme. Register your details with us and be the first to hear about this and our other world-class festivals and events. You could even win a prize.
