More About NewcastleGateshead
NewcastleGateshead offers a huge diversity of urban culture; from eclectic shopping opportunities, chilled café culture, contemporary restaurants, cutting-edge theatre and vibrant nightlife, to the breathtaking landscape you experience as you wander around the city, the iconic quayside or one of the many free museums and galleries.
Looking down over the River Tyne from the world-famous Tyne Bridge the view is magnificent, with The Sage Gateshead music centre, BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art and the spectacular Gateshead Millennium Bridge.
With such a compact city centre, the region's rich history and heritage is evident at every turn. It's so easy to explore Newcastle's Castle Keep, the medieval city walls and the elegant architecture of Grainger Town at your leisure.
There are regular daily flights from throughout the UK to Newcastle International Airport - conveniently linked to the city centre by the Metro - and it is less than a three hour train journey from London on the National Express East Coast Main Line. If you are coming by car it couldn't be easier as it is just off the A1(M).
When you arrive you can travel beyond NewcastleGateshead easily. Jump on the Metro to reach some of the country's cleanest and most beautiful beaches within half an hour; explore pretty Tynemouth Village, visit Bede's World - currently bidding to become a World Heritage Site in 2010 - or take in a West End show at Sunderland's Empire Theatre.
You can see one of Britain's most recognised icons in Antony Gormley's colossal Angel of the North as you travel from the south on the A1(M), and there are special bus services available on a daily basis from the city centre.
The most important part of any region is its people, and when you visit NewcastleGateshead you will meet some of the friendliest, who are always ready to give you a warm welcome.
