Food Heroes Market

Food HeroesFood Heroes Tasting Market

THIS market showcases a hand-picked selection of 35 of the North East's best and most interesting food and drink producers, including Trees Can't Dance and Cabosse Chocolates. This event was really popular last year and there's an even wider variety of fantastic food and drink on offer in 2008. Never tried wild garlic soup before? Or legendary local specialities, such as Ridley's fresh seafood, or award-winning Northumberland Cheese Company's Coquetdale cheese? Well, here's your chance to learn about and taste the fantastic food and drink that's grown and created right here on your doorstep - and then stock up on your favourites to take home.

There will also be unique market eateries, where you can try wood-fired pizzas, hot organic beef sandwiches, delicious cakes made with root vegetables and the best of local real ale.

Take a seat in the demonstration marquee and see top local chefs in action. In Market Challenges, visitors will be able to choose ingredients from market stalls and challenge chefs to create dishes on the spot. And just next to the market, chill out at the unique Food Heroes Picnic, as the Civic Centre quadrangle is transformed into an urban picnic area complete with bar, gazebos and seating where you can try out those tasty purchases. Street performers will help make the picnic go with a swing.
