Special Restaurant Events

THESE special restaurant events were so popular in 2007 we've brought them back this year and made them even better. More tickets will be available in response to last year's overwhelming demand.

Secret RestaurantEAT!NG - A Secret Restaurant
This is the showstopper. Don't miss the event of the festival. Getting a reservation for this guerrilla restaurant, in town for five days only, is like winning one of Willy Wonka's golden tickets. Details cannot be revealed: the restaurant's location, chef and menu are closely guarded secrets. All we can tell you is that last year this event sold out 12 times over, and people are still talking about it.

This year, it's completely different again: some clues? The event is in association with Latin American specialists ¡VAMOS! and sensible footwear is required... Book early to reserve your place. If you're successful, you'll be told the location just 24 hours before your reservation. And be prepared for some surprises.

10 Things to EatTen Things to EAT! Before They Die
The closing event and gala dinner for EAT! NewcastleGateshead is a truly spectacular event, in association with Slow Food UK and the annual NECTA chef competition. In a grand setting, with a unique menu, this is a glittering finale to the festival, hosted by Wendy Gibson.

The menu features at least ten ingredients from the Slow Food's Ark of Taste list, the endangered species of the food world. These are artisan foods that are now made by just a small handful of producers, from Herdwick mutton, Guatemalan Huehuetenango coffee, Spanish Ballobar capers, Herat raisins from Afghanistan, Irish raw milk cheese and young asparagus grown by the beaches of Formby. Enjoy the evening, learn the stories behind these amazing ingredients and help draw attention to the work of Slow Food in saving these traditional foods. The evening will include a sparkling canapé reception, entertainment including magicians and music, a festival award-giving and foodie goodie bags to take home.
