Four exciting half-day foraging tours taking in a range of North East habitats.

Tours are graded for different levels of mobility and adventurousness and you'll be guided by experienced foragers to ensure the delicate environment of nature's free larder is left unharmed. Please ensure you wear appropriate outdoor clothing and footwear. A light lunch or supper is included in the ticket price. All tours take place on Bank Holiday Monday 4 May.

Jesmond Dene, Newcastle (meet at MillField House Visitor Centre, next to Pets Corner)

Book online Fascinating and bountiful, forager Martin Charlton will introduce you to a surprising range of edible plants and trees right on your doorstep. A light lunch will be served at Jesmond Dene House Hotel.

Book online Explore the beautiful woodland and riverside areas of Gibside, owned by The National Trust. Forager James Burton will take you along some familiar paths and also to some less well-known spots. A light lunch will be prepared using produce from the estate and food provided by James and Gibside café.

Book online This is a rare opportunity to discover the North East's wonderful and wild coastal plants and the secret treasures of its rock pools. Local expert Martin Charlton will guide you on a minibus tour along the North Tyneside coastline at low tide, from Tynemouth Priory to St Mary's lighthouse. A light supper of locally caught fish and foraged produce will be served at Crusoe's. Show your ticket at Malmaison Café for a complimentary coffee.

Accessibility: Not accessible. Participants need to bring or hire bikes, please contact the booking office for more information if you are interested in this event.

Book online Beautiful, ancient Chopwell Woods is alive with an amazing diversity of animal and plant life. Foragers will use mountain bikes to explore and find foraging sites with our wild food expert James Burton. You will then travel to The Feathers Inn at Hedley on the Hill to see a wild animal skinned and prepared for cooking, before a unique two-course foraged supper.
