What is NewcastleGateshead Initiative (NGI)?

NGI is a destination and tourism marketing agency which uses culture as a vehicle to raise the profile of NewcastleGateshead and North East England and to attract new visitors. We are a private/public sector partnership with over 160 members, and we are the base for the area tourism partnership for Tyne and Wear.

Who Do We Work With?

We work with our principal stakeholders, Newcastle City and Gateshead Councils, One NorthEast, local companies, other local authorities, cultural producers, educational bodies, tourism, transport and conference businesses who share our ambition to promote NewcastleGateshead as a world-class place in which to live, work, learn and visit.

Our Track Record

The first 5 years has seen NGI widely recognised as one of the UK’s strongest destination marketing agencies. NGI has a growing membership in the private sector built from loyalty and respect for the value the agency has added to the twin cities of NewcastleGateshead.

The NewcastleGateshead brand, combined with a constantly improved product offer, is adding real value. Continued press interest in the area is based on the very story of Newcastle and Gateshead working together.

In the past 5 years NGI has:

    Delivered economic benefits to both NewcastleGateshead and the broader region
    Transformed NewcastleGateshead’s national and international media presence
    Grown business tourism and conferencing to support over 2,000 new hotel rooms
    Helped promote NewcastleGateshead to become “England’s favourite city break 2002-2005”

    Harnessed private sector engagement and support for the promotion of NewcastleGateshead
