Gateshead International Stadium has become a focal point for British and international athletic events. This all-seater stadium is also accessible for the disabled.
Newcastle is home to the 2005 Basketball Championship and BBL Trophy winning team, the Newcastle Eagles whose home is the Metro Radio Arena. Visit the home of the Newcastle Falcons, the region's premier rugby union team, at Kingston Park and see players including World Cup winning hero, Jonny Wilkinson. The sport of ice hockey features two local clubs, the Newcastle Vipers who play at the Metro Radio Arena and the Whitley Warriors.

If you like horse racing, you’ll love the buzz and excitement at Gosforth Park, one of England’s premier racecourses which hosts both flat and national hunt races - a fantastic day out.

Northumberland has excellent golf courses scattered throughout the region. In fact, there are 92 courses within one hour's drive of Newcastle, offering plenty of choice.
