Getting Around
Once you're here the central district is so compact it's great to walk around or simply jump on the quick and efficient Metro system or one of the many buses and taxis.

Traveline
For all your local public transport enquiries call Traveline on 0871 200 22 33 or, for the hearing impaired, call the Textphone number on 0870 241 2216. Lines are open 7am-8pm daily (excluding Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year‘s Day). You can also check the website: www.traveline.info

Metro
The Metro system has been rated as one of the country‘s most efficient modes of transport and carries more than 37 million passengers a year. It is an ideal way to get to and from the airport as well as the Jesmond café bar scene and the coastal areas.

The Metro trains themselves have room for wheelchairs and buggies and have comfortable seating. You can buy your ticket at any Metro station, so have some change ready. Look out for the Metro Hopper which lets you travel in zone one all day, or Metro DaySaver which gives all day unlimted Metro travel.

Bus Services
Bus services in NewcastleGateshead are plentiful and frequent and there are a wide variety of special travel tickets available including a Day Rover for unlimited travel by any form of public transport in Tyne & Wear, while the North East Explorer ticket can be used on public transport right across the North East region. Buy one on the day from bus drivers or in advance from Travelshops.

If you're visiting the Angel of the North why not take the unique Angel Bus (Go North East services 21 & 22) from Eldon Square Bus Station in Newcastle or Gateshead Interchange. For more information visit www.simplygo.com

QuayLink - This new bus service uses ‘state-of-the-art’, ultra low emission, electric vehicles. These vehicles are the first of their kind to operate commercially in the UK and are easily identified through their distinctive bright yellow branding. The service links the major transport interchanges of Haymarket, Monument, Gateshead Interchange and Central Station with Newcastle Quayside and Gateshead Quays providing an accessible and reliable service for both residents and visitors to the area.

Getting home after a night out in NewcastleGateshead is easy too with Go North East's Night Bus services. The N21 and N56 services run to Sunderland via Washington and Durham via Low Fell and Chester le Street. For more information visit www.simplygo.com


Taxi
Almost 400 taxi drivers have taken part in the ambassador programme to become important experts and representatives of NewcastleGateshead. Wherever you see the official sign you can be reassured that the driver will be able to help you with information about the area and is committed to advising passengers on things to do and places to visit.

Car Hire
Hiring a car is the ideal way to explore the many regional attractions, but not necessary if you are just enjoying the delights of the city.
