Preparing for the Tall Ships' Visit

On July 20th the first tall ship to arrive on the Tyne moored along the quayside.
She's called the Eye of the Wind.

All sorts of other vessels have been seen preparing the River Tyne for the arrival of the Tall Ships, overseen by the Harbour Master and his staff.

The river has been dredged to make it deep enough for the biggest ships.
A boat called the Clearwater, built to help clean up the Tyne, is removing rubbish that has been dumped or brought in by the tide.

Boats have been busy taking pontoons along the river
to line the quayside, ready for vessels to moor.

Gangways have also been carried along the river.

Meanwhile other vessels are going about their normal business.
The bulk carrier Sandhopper delivers its regular load.
A ferry takes people on a leisure cruise under the Gateshead Millennium Bridge.

And fishing boats bob on the tide where the Tyne meets the Ouseburn.

Visiting vessels have come and gone. The Stubnitz, a floating art centre, moored in early July for a week of performances and shows.
